The Mesothelioma
Applied Research Foundation (MARF) is an American national
nonprofit organization committed to eradicating mesothelioma
as a life-ending disease.
• funding the highest quality and most promising research
projects from around the world through our rigorous peer-reviewed
process
• helping patients obtain information on their treatment
options which is completely up-to-date and unbiased
• and advocating in Washington D.C. for federal Mesothelioma
research funding to stop this national tragedy.
The work of the Foundation is funded by meso patients and their
families who have invested generously in the search for a cure,
as well as law firms, drug companies, and companies formerly
involved with asbestos, all of whom have attached in the general
mission of curing the disease.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF) was formed
in late 1999 to restore hope and end the misery for mesothelioma
patients and their families. Their mission is to eradicate mesothelioma
as a life-ending disease through research, education and awareness.
The Minnesota Department of Health is launching two major studies
to answer long-simmering questions about taconite and human
health. The organization says men in northeastern Minnesota
have double the expected rate of a rare form of cancer called
mesothelioma. The first to persuade Congress to appropriate
funds for meso research; the first to organize an annual meso
symposium to bring together patients, doctors, researchers and
advocates; and the first to address the requirements of patients
and families for hope and medical information through a robust
patient education program.
There is thrilling news for patients with mesothelioma in the
making. Two pharmaceutical companies have started a clinical
phase II clinical trial to test the efficacy and movement of
a new drug in mesothelioma. I am grateful to succeed Roger's
visionary leadership, and to continue to raise what he started.
The Meso Foundation is fortunate to have committed staff, amazing
volunteers and a growing body of public leaders, researchers,
patients, and families who turn to us as the definitive association
for meso information, support of research, and advocacy. Together
in the coming years we will raise our impact on overcoming the
meso tragedy.
